Winterizing Your Equipment
Friday November 20th, 2009 - 5:58AM
With winter upon us and the need for your lawn maintenance equipment dwindles, is your equipment ready for the hibernation period? Here are a few tips to "winterize" your mower, string trimmer, edger and so on.
First off, think of personal safety and do not attempt to perform this work if you're not qualified. Second please be thoughtful of the environment. Dispose of all old fuel and oil properly. If you don't have a place to dispose of the old fuel and oil, just bring it to the FIXIT SHOP and we will dispose of it for you.
Drain all fuel from tanks, fuel lines and carburetors. After draining the fuel allow the components to dry, reassemble all the items. Next drain the used oil from the engine crankcase on the 4 cycle engines. After draining all the oil, replace with good quality 30 weight oil and be sure not to overfill. Clean all debris from the engine cooling fins, after all, these are air cooled engines. Clean debris from the underside of the mower deck. Most string trimmers, blowers and some edgers are 2 cycle engines and don't require oil changes.
This maintenance will help ensure your equipment will be ready for use when spring arrives. These little things can save you money and help extend the life of your equipment.
If you're not the "DO IT YOUSELF" type, bring your equipment to the FIXIT SHOP and we can perform the job for you!
