WHEN DO I NEED TO SHARPEN MY BLADE
Friday April 17th, 2009 - 7:58PM
To keep your lawn healthy and properly groomed, ensure you have a sharp blade on your mower. After mowing, look at the grass blade. Are you cutting the grass or just beating it into submission? You should sharpen your blade several times during the cutting season. How do you know when to sharpen? If the grass has shredded tops after you mow your lawn, it's time to sharpen the mower blade. There are several factors to consider, but there is no set time to sharpen a blade. Things like the type lawn you have, how much exposed sand and dirt is in your yard, how many roots, stumps, rocks, etc do you hit. The rule of thumb is to check the grass after cutting and ensure the blade is actually cutting the grass blades and not just breaking them off. Keep the blade sharp for a better looking heathier lawn.
